ALS, 1813 July 22 : Washington, to James T. Gerry.

Written as Vice-President of the United States, Gerry addresses his son, saying that he presumes that the boy has been too preoccupied with his studies to write. He makes some reference to "the secrets of the enemy," referring to the War of 1812 in progress. Gerry goes on in detail to give words of advice on good living to his son, and mentions the boy's brother Elbridge.
